Altogether, Police patrols and Tourist Police jointly with security guards are on 24 hour-a-day alert protecting tourists, along with the local residents serving the guests. Hence, even a lady alone is completely safe strolling around day-and-night. If you don't want, no one will touch you. Incidents if any, for the most part are between tourists themselves (amongst US Navy, Russians and 'Russian Mafia', and so on). In outward, Pattaya might have the appearance of being Western, but it is not. Pattaya combines a mixture of cultures, both East and West, Thai and non-Thai. It would be wrong to judge the place just by its physical appearance, and even a greater mistake to judge Thai people based on what one see and hear during a short holiday in the resort.
